Learning Disability and Dementia
For our first webinar of 2026, DSDC is delighted to welcome Professor Karen Watchman. Prof. Watchman’s academic background is in social science, with a practice background in intellectual disability where she spent many years as Chief Executive of Down's Syndrome Scotland.
During the webinar, Prof. Watchman looks at research conducted at the University of Stirling including:
Life through a Lens – implementing non drug support for people with a learning disability and dementia; a study that also included people with a learning disability as co-researchers.
Stand by Me – co-designed research with couples who have a learning disability when one partner is affected by a dementia.
Life Story Work evaluation – strategies to help families plan ahead alongside their older relative with a learning disability.
Throughout the presentation, Prof. Watchman has provided QR codes to link through to various points of reference. These reference pages can all be found through the SquarePeg website here.
