DSDC - Best Practice in Dementia Care
Over the past few months, our Senior Dementia Consultant Dave, along with specialist Associates, have reviewed and published an updated Best Practice in Dementia Care Programme at DSDC.
Our Best Practice Programme was first developed in 2007 and since then has gone on to train over 2,600 facilitators globally and over 17,000 learners. We have active Facilitators from Aberdeen to Zambia, all sharing one vision - to improve the quality of life of people living with a dementia, by adopting a person-led approach to care practice.
Our new course features the experiences, thoughts and opinions of people living with a dementia, care partners and a wide range of professionals. Why? Because people living with a dementia lead us, they guide us and inform our teaching at DSDC. The updated programme features new content, directly informed by lived experience, research and policy.
Person Led Care - DSDC prides itself on its approach to this ethos. Placing the person living with a dementia in front, giving them a voice and empowering them to seek change, improvement and inclusivity within practice.
Meaningful Engagement and Connection - as humans we all need connection to something or someone in order to survive. This feeling never leaves us and could be argued that as we age, it becomes central to our quality of life. In this unite we particularly focus on the importance of connection for people living with an advanced dementia, where the ability to communicate may not be verbally, but physically.
